HMRC has finally published the new Taxpayer’s Charter, nearly two years after it was first proposed. “Your Charter” sets out the nine rights and three obligations of individuals, businesses and other groups dealing with HMRC and is intended to improve the relationship between HMRC and taxpayers. HMRC gives the following commitments:-
· To respect you.
· To help and support you to get things right.
· To treat you as honest.
· To treat you evenhandedly.
· To be professional and act with integrity.
· To tackle people who deliberately break the rules and challenge those who bend the rules.
· To protect your information and respect your privacy.
· To accept that someone else can represent you.
· To do all they can to keep the cost of dealing with HMRC to a minimum.
In return, HMRC expects taxpayers to:-
· Be honest.
· Respect their staff.
· To take care to get things right.
