HM Revenue and Customs are in the process of running a programme of 40 events on powers for compliance checks and the new penalty regime across the UK between October and March under the Department’s ‘Learning Together’ roadshows.
The events are aimed towards agents and HM Revenue and Customs officers in order to gain an understanding of how the new compliance checks and penalty regime will operate.
The roadshows are providing a good forum for agents and HM Revenue and Customs to discuss various issues in a non confrontational environment although it is clear from having attended such a road show that the new penalty regime will not offer the clarity and lack of discretion that was orginally envisaged.
