Health screening and medial checkups provided to retired employees under an employer financed retirement benefit scheme will be exempt from the charge to tax under Regulations coming into force on 1 December 2009.

Finance Act 2009 provided for the relief to apply to current employees from the tax year 2009/10 onwards and the amended Regulations now extend that cover to retired employees where a similar benefit had been provided before retirement.  Exemption created by these Regulations extends to tax years from 2006/07 onwards and a tax repayment claim may be possible where such benefits have previously been included as taxable.
