Charitable Organisation - Management reporting With seven different entities under the same roof, the client required detailed management accounts for each entity, based on the accounting data held in separate companies in Sage Line 50, allowing the board to review overall performance and make comparisons between the different entities. Using the ODBC program available with Line 50, the client was able to update the spreadsheet management accounts at the press of a button in Excel and print a management reporting pack in a matter of minutes without the need to re key any data in Excel.
Distribution Business - Ecommerce Website The client is the largest independent distributor of consumer electronics goods in the UK. They supply 3000 retail stores nationwide. The project was to develop a business to business (B2B) site to improve business ordering and reduce errors. The site is a prototype for a B2C site, which will link the 3000 stores under a common brand offering a local service point for goods purchased from the web. David helped the firm manage the project through from its concept phase advising the client on both the technical and business aspects including an appraisal of the risks. Then he developed a business and technical model, which met the commercial criteria of the client. Finally he to produced a development plan with key milestones for the rollout to the stores.
Legal Firm - Accounting System The client is a legal firm based in South Wales and the South West, specialising in Insurance Litigation they act for most large Insurers. They have grown through a period of acquisition over the last thirty years to nine regional offices and over 450 staff. A result of this growth has been the development of disparate systems in each office and a lack of internal communication. David assisted in the selection of an accounting system that would provide the management information they needed to grow profitability, and to develop the knowledge management to allow all members of the business to leverage off each other's experience. To enable this David scoped and installed a wide area network (WAN) to link the nine offices, selected an enterprise accounting system with the specific requirements of a major law firm. Migrated data from nine legacy based UNIX systems into SQL data. Developed and rolled out an installation and training plan for all staff.
Manufacturing Company In the Manufacturing sector David has provided help to a small manufacturing business in the selection of a new job costing system. This enabled the firm to have a much clearer picture of which jobs were on track and which were potentially going to over run. It also enabled the firm to understand where costs were being incurred at a much earlier point in the process than was previously possible.
Retail Chain - Accounting software installation and implementation, Software training, Management reporting, After sales support A chain of 8 shops needed a computerised accounting system to replace their existing manual records to enable the management greater and quicker access to the management information. The project involved the installation of Sage Line 50 and the provision of training to the existing staff, who had no IT experience. Using the ODBC link from Sage to Excel a spreadsheet was written to calculate the wages and commission due to salon staff, based on the sales information held within Sage. Ongoing support has been provided to the client to assist with further IT issues arising from the original installation.
